Setting up a contact form that truly fits your brand can feel like a difficult task, especially when you want it to seamlessly integrate with tools like Kit. The good news is that it’s entirely possible to build a customized Kit contact form that captures leads while maintaining your site’s style.

Create Your WordPress Kit Form Now! 🙂

In this article, I’ll show you how to create a customized Kit form and add it to your WordPress site without any coding! Let’s get started.

How to Create a Customized Kit Contact Form in WordPress

I’ll show you how to create a basic Kit form. You can follow the same steps to connect any form to Kit easily.

Step 1: Install the WPForms Plugin and Activate the Kit Addon

The first thing you need to do is to install and activate the WPForms plugin. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin if you need some help.

Please Note!

You will only be able to access the Kit addon if you’ve got a WPForms Pro license or higher.

The WPForms pricing page.

Upgrade to WPForms Pro Now! 🙂

Once you have WPForms installed on your website, you must next install and activate the Kit addon, which is quite simple. From your WordPress dashboard, navigate to WPForms » Addons.

Scroll down until you locate the Kit addon. If it’s not already installed, click on the Install Addon button. After the addon is installed, flip the toggle switch to activate it if it isn’t automatically activated upon installation.

Install and activate the Kit addon in WPForms.

After you install and activate the Kit addon, you’re ready to move on. In the next step, we’re going to connect our Kit accounts to WPForms. It’s important to note that you can do this later if you want to skip straight to creating the form in step 3, but I find that it’s easier to do it now before you start working on your form.

Step 2: Connect Your WPForms and Kit Accounts

To connect WPForms to Kit, you’ll first need to open a new tab and log in on the Kit website to access your account information. It’s important to do this in a new tab or window because you’ll be copying and pasting things from Kit into WPForms.

Kit homepage

Once you’ve logged in, click on the dropdown next to your name in the top right of the page and select Settings.

Access your Kit settings

On the Settings page, scroll down through the options in the left sidebar until you find Developer and click on that.

Kit Developer settings

On the Developer settings page, you should see your API and Secret Keys.

API and Secret Keys in Kit

Leave that window just for the moment and click back over to the one with your WPForms account.

The last thing we did here was install and activate the Kit addon. Now we’re going to establish the connection between accounts. To do this, under WPForms in the left sidebar menu, click on Settings. On that page, click on the tab that says Integrations.

Scroll down until you find the option for Kit.

Please Note:

If you haven’t installed and activated the Kit addon, you will not see it as an integration option until you do.

Click on the Add New Account button. This is where you’ll need to return to the tab with your Kit account info and copy over your API Key and API Secret Key.

Add your Kit API Key and API Secret Key to connect your account.

Once the account connection has been established, you’ll see a confirmation.

Kit account established in WPForms

Now your Kit account is connected to WPForms. Like I said, you can still do this later after you build your form. I’ll even point out in the tutorial where you can do it. I just find it easier to have everything set up ahead of time so the next steps are smoother.

Right, then. Let’s carry on.

Step 3: Create Your Kit WordPress Form

WPForms comes with an awesome built-in form template library consisting of 2,000+ WordPress form templates. You can use them as-is or customize them to suit your needs.

Using these templates, you can kick-start your form-building process with just a few clicks and without needing to build forms from a blank canvas if you don’t want to.

To create a new form in WPForms, click WPForms » Add New in your WordPress dashboard.

add new form

This will prompt you to the form setup screen. Here, you need to add a name to your form and select the form template you want to use

For this example, we’ll use the Simple Contact Form and name it “Kit Form.” If you want, you can choose the Newsletter Signup Form Template here instead. You can preview templates by selecting them and clicking on the View Demo button.

Select the Simple Contact Form template in WPForms

After you select the template you want to use, click on the Use Template button to load it in the form builder.

Kit contact form

This is how your form will look in the form builder dashboard. Feel free to add, edit, or rearrange fields according to your liking.

One thing you might want or need to add is a GDPR agreement field. Since it’s completely optional, I’m not going to cover it in depth here, but if you want to read more about how to enable the GDPR field and add it to your form, check out our doc on creating GDPR-compliant forms.

Step 4: Connect Your Form to Kit

So far, we’ve installed and activated WPForms and the Kit addon, connected our Kit accounts to WPForms, and built our form. Now we need to make sure the information from our forms goes to our Kit accounts.

When you established the connection between WPForms and Kit earlier in this tutorial, you set up your account to be used with WPForms. When you want to send form submission data from a specific form to your Kit account, you need to enable it on that specific form. That’s what we’re going to do here.

If you haven’t connected your Kit account yet, continue here. If you connected your account in step 2, you can skip the next few paragraphs and pick back up at “If You’ve Already Connected Your Account…” below.

If You Haven’t Connected Your Account Yet…

With your Kit form open in the form editor, click on Marketing in the left sidebar. If you didn’t already connect your Kit account to WPForms, this is where you’re going to do it by selecting Kit and then clicking on the Add New Connection button.

Connecting your Kit account during form building.

Then you’ll have to follow the directions from Step 2 above to connect your account before continuing.

If You’ve Already Connected Your Account…

With your form open in the form builder, click on Marketing in the left sidebar. Scroll down through your options until you find Kit and click on it.

Since your account is already connected, you shouldn’t see an option to connect an account. Instead, click on the Add New Connection button.

Add a new connection in Kit

After that, simply give the connection a name and click the OK button to complete the integration process. The connection name is internal only and is just intended to help you differentiate among your connections if you have multiple.

Enter a Kit connection name.

After you name your connection, you’ll need to select the account you want to use, as well as the action you want to perform, from the dropdown menus in setup.

Select the Kit account and action to perform

Please Note:

If you use the method of connecting accounts that we went through in Step 2, you can connect multiple accounts if you want to. You can only connect one if you make the connection from the form builder.

The action options you have are:

  • Subscribe
  • Unsubscribe
  • Remove Subscriber’s Tags

We’re going to choose Subscribe for our tutorial, but you should choose what makes the most sense for your form. When you select Subscribe, you’ll see that more options appear.

Subscribe options

Now you’re going to map the form fields. The options that you have will depend on the fields in the form you’ve created. The Form and Tags fields are based on what exists already in your Kit account. You might opt to connect your WPForms form to a form on Kit, but you’ll most likely be using tags.

If you have tags created already, those will be options for you to choose. You can also create new tags from WPForms and they will also be created in your Kit account.

You can also use conditional logic if you only want to process certain submissions in this manner.

Map Form Fields with Kit

For assistance on mapping your contact form’s fields with Kit, you can check out this Kit Addon documentation that lists down all the steps, including what to keep in mind if you’re using conditional logic for your form.

Nice work! You’ve successfully integrated Kit with WPForms and are now ready to embed the form on your website.

Step 5: Embed Your Kit Contact Form

Now you’re at the final step: embedding your form on your website so it can start collecting new subscribers. The easiest way to embed a form is to use the Embed button at the top of the form builder. After clicking that, it will ask you if you’d like to embed the form on a new or existing page.

Choose where you'd like to embed your form

If you choose an existing page, you’ll see a list of pages on your site to choose. If you create a new page, you’ll be able to create it right from the form builder. Check out this guide on 3 ways to embed forms for more.

This is how your Kit form will look on the live page. Make sure to test the embedded form to ensure it works as intended.

Styling Your Kit Contact Form

While in the Block Editor of WordPress, where you’ve embedded your Kit contact form, you can also style the Field, Label, Button, Container, and Background styles directly to create a form that’s both functional and perfectly aligned with your brand.

That’s it! Now, you can automatically add subscribers to your Kit account whenever visitors submit the form on your site.

Sending emails from my WordPress site used to be a hit-or-miss situation. Sometimes messages would end up in spam folders or not get delivered at all.

That’s when I decided to try Easy WP SMTP. After setting it up, I noticed an immediate improvement in how emails were delivered and received.

In this post, I’ll share what I’ve learned about Easy WP SMTP and give you an inside look at how it works, what it offers, and what you can expect if you decide to try it yourself.

My Favorite Easy WP SMTP Features

The Easy WP SMTP WordPress plugin has 600,000+ active installations as of this writing. We used it ourselves so that we could bring you an accurate representation of its functionality. Check out the core features of this SMTP service below.

1. Easy WP SMTP Setup Wizard

Easy WP SMTP setup wizard

Who doesn’t love a good setup wizard? After you sign up for an Easy WP SMTP account and download the plugin, a setup wizard will walk you through configuring your settings.

We found that pretty much everything was covered in the setup wizard, so let’s take a closer look at what it entails.

First, you get the option to choose your SMTP mailer. This is the service that will actually send the emails, and Easy WP SMTP is compatible with all the top players in the industry.

easy wp smtp mailers

Absolute beginners might not know much about the mailers to be able to choose. To help you make the best decision about what you need, there’s a complete mailer guide linked that gives more information.

Easy WP SMTP gives you options to use some of the top SMTP mailers, including Amazon SES, Gmail (offering an easy connection without the need to set up your own app), Mailgun, Microsoft Outlook, Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), SendGrid, SMTP.com, and more.

After selecting your mailer, the wizard guides you through the process of configuring the mailer settings.

Don’t miss the linked documentation as you go through this step. It will help you understand the steps you’re taking and why.

Configure mailer settings in Easy WP SMTP

After configuring your mailer settings, including adding your API key, you’ll go through enabling the email features you want to use and configuring email logs.

Finally, the setup wizard will check the mailer configuration. If everything checks out, you’re golden. If it doesn’t, though, it will walk you through the steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check the email configuration in Easy WP SMTP

SMTP configuration can be intimidating to people who don’t fully understand what it is or why they need it. Easy WP SMTP makes setup easy with the setup wizard. Users who are new to SMTP will certainly benefit from how clear and easy it is to set up.

2. Email Reports Dashboard

Easy WP SMTP email report example

Easy WP SMTP offers a basic email reports dashboard so you can see your emails at a glance. You can set it to whatever date range you want to monitor for emails sent, emails failed, emails opened, links clicked, and more.

While it might not have all the bells and whistles that other SMTP plugins feature on their dashboards, it sticks to Easy WP SMTP’s commitment to simplicity. All the information you need is there, and it’s easy to read.

3. Comprehensive Email Logs

Easy WP SMTP email logs

If you enable email logging, you can access the emails you’ve sent based on the settings you’ve configured.

Once again, there’s nothing fancy here, but it has all the functionality you need. It looks very much like the backend of WordPress, which makes it intuitive for users.

You can click on any of the messages for a bit more info, such as the email ID or attachments.

Email log detail in Easy WP SMTP

As we said before, although there’s nothing fancy here, the email logs give you the functionality you need, especially if you’re new to using SMTP.

You’ll find all the basic information. Remember that you can also customize what’s included in your email logs by going into the Easy WP SMTP settings.

4. Instant Alerts for Failed Emails

Nothing is more frustrating than learning too late that your emails haven’t been delivered. Easy WP SMTP solves this with real-time notifications.

For this, Easy WP SMTP supports multiple notification channels. You can receive alerts via email, SMS, Slack, or Microsoft Teams, so you’re immediately informed about delivery issues.

email alerts easy wp smtp

By being notified instantly, you can address the issue quickly, minimizing the impact on your communications and instantly start resending failed emails.

5. Backup Connection for Email Continuity

With the backup connection system, Easy WP SMTP automatically switches to a secondary SMTP provider if your main one fails. It’s like having a safety net for your email delivery.

You don’t have to monitor everything constantly or scramble to fix things at the last minute. The plugin handles it in real-time, ensuring that emails continue to send without interruptions.

easy wp smtp backup connections

Another great thing is how easy it is to set up. You just configure your secondary SMTP provider in the plugin, and it does the rest.

If the first provider fails, the plugin instantly switches over, and you won’t even notice a gap in email delivery. For me, this has been incredibly useful during provider outages or unexpected spikes in email volume.

6. Smart Email Routing

Whether it’s transactional emails like order confirmations or marketing campaigns, this feature allows me to organize and optimize how these emails are sent, ensuring everything reaches its destination smoothly.

With smart email routing, I can set up rules to send specific types of emails through different SMTP providers. For example, I route all my transactional emails, like password resets, through a reliable and secure provider.

easy wp smtp smart email routing

On the other hand, marketing emails, which often involve bulk sending, go through a different service designed to handle high volumes efficiently. This way, I ensure that each email is sent via the provider best suited for the job.

Setting up smart email routing was straightforward. The interface allows me to define specific criteria for routing, such as the type of email or even the recipient’s domain.

7. Miscellaneous Email Tools

The last option you have in the Easy WP SMTP menu is Tools. While the email export and test email can also be found elsewhere, this is the only menu option where you can view scheduled actions and debug events.

Easy WP SMTP uses the Action Scheduler library. To put it simply, this means that you can schedule and process large-scale actions and tasks in the background. Doing so will ensure you don’t slow your site down for your visitors.

The Tools option is also where you can view and configure debugging events to assist with resolving email send errors and issues. There’s an event log on this page. Click on any item to see more details about it.

Debug event in Easy WP SMTP

You have what you need to get started here. There aren’t a lot of tools to configure, and the menu is a little bit repetitive, especially considering the same features are found elsewhere in the plugin.

But the simplicity makes it super beginner-friendly. You don’t have to worry about getting bogged down in feature bloat or losing hours to configuring settings.

Support and Documentation Overview

One thing I’ve learned from managing email setups is that problems can pop up when you least expect them. That’s why having a reliable support team to turn to can make all the difference.

With Easy WP SMTP, the support provided is not just responsive, but it feels genuinely tailored to help you out of tricky situations.

Knowing that I can quickly get back on track if something goes wrong gives me peace of mind. I’ve worked with other plugins before, and I can confidently say that the support from Easy WP SMTP stands out.

How Much Does Easy WP SMTP Cost?

Easy WP SMTP pricing

Easy WP SMTP’s pricing is affordable. In fact, you can spend some time using the free version before you decide to buy. While it’s a bit more limited, it’s a good way to get a feel for the platform.

One of the things we really like about Easy WP SMTP’s pricing structure is that once you pay for a premium plan, you get all the features. The only difference in the plans is how many sites you can use. The only exception is that the Elite plan also includes priority support.

Since plans bill annually, each plan includes one year of updates and support.

Is Easy WP SMTP Worth It?

Easy WP SMTP review

Aptly named, Easy WP SMTP is exactly what it claims to be: an easy SMTP plugin for WordPress. It’s perfect for those who are just getting started with using SMTP to send emails from WordPress.

While features may be sparse and design may be simple, the plugin has all the functionality you need.

If you’re a power user, you might consider something a little more robust, such as WP Mail SMTP. The new and average user will quickly adjust to and feel quite comfortable with Easy WP SMTP.

Easy WP SMTP is great for eCommerce sites, too, so you can easily and reliably get your invoices to customers.

Easy WP SMTP Review — FAQs

We reviewed the core plugin features, but if you still have questions about using SMTP, check out the FAQ below.

Why should I use an SMTP plugin?

An SMTP plugin like Easy WP SMTP improves email deliverability by sending emails through an SMTP server instead of using the PHP mail() function, which is native to WordPress. PHP mail() is known to have email deliverability issues, which is why SMTP is preferable.

Do I need to know any code to use Easy WP SMTP?

No, one of the best things about Easy WP SMTP is that you don’t need to have any kind of coding knowledge. You can set it up easily using the setup wizard.

Why are my emails still going to spam after configuring Easy WP SMTP?

If you’ve configured your SMTP plugin and your outgoing emails are still going to the spam folder, go into your settings and locate the From address. Make sure it matches your SMTP domain. Also double-check your DNS, SPF and DKIM records.

Is Easy WP SMTP GDPR compliant?

Yes, Easy WP SMTP is GDPR compliant and does not store data that would violate those regulations.

What is the benefit to using a 3rd-party SMTP provider?

Emails will send more reliably when you use a 3rd-party SMTP. This is true, in part, because they offer better, stronger features than the default SMTP does.

Why Speed Is Crucial When Choosing From Web Hosting Providers

When selecting web hosting providers, speed plays a crucial role for various reasons. Besides boosting your overall online performance, a fast website offers the following benefits:

  • User experience. Faster websites provide a better user experience. Pages that load quickly improve user engagement, keeping visitors on your site longer.
  • SEO ranking. Page load time is among Google’s ranking factors. Faster websites are more likely to rank higher, driving more organic traffic to your site.
  • Conversion rates. Speed affects your bottom line directly. Slow websites can frustrate users, leading to higher bounce rates and fewer conversions. On the other hand, faster websites lead to better user satisfaction and increased conversions.
  • Mobile experience. Speed becomes even more critical with the ever-increasing use of mobile devices for web browsing. Mobile users often have slower internet connections, making a fast web host essential to delivering a good mobile user experience.

Evaluation Criteria for the Fastest Web Hosting Companies

When evaluating the fastest web hosts, here are several critical factors to check:

  • Server response time. SRT is the time the web host’s server takes to start sending data in response to a request. Lower response times indicate faster hosting.
  • Load time. It refers to the total time it takes for a web page to fully load. Faster web hosts will typically deliver shorter load times.
  • Uptime. While not directly related to speed, uptime is crucial as it denotes the host’s reliability. The bigger uptime, the longer your website is accessible.
  • Network infrastructure. A host’s network infrastructure, including free CDN integration and data center locations, can significantly impact the speed.
  • Hardware. Using solid-state drives (SSDs) and the latest server hardware can help ensure fast delivery of your website data.
  • Scalability. A good host should be able to maintain your site speed once your website grows.
  • Performance under load. Evaluate a web hosting provider’s speed when multiple users access your website – a good web host must maintain its performance even under heavy load.
  • Customer reviews and testimonials. Feedback from other users often provides insight into real-world performance.

However, while speed can highly improve your user experience, it should be balanced with other hosting requirements like cost, security, and support. You can also look at the allocated resources, including RAM, storage space, and bandwidth.

Our Picks

Throughout this guide, we’ve explored the importance of speed in web hosting, the factors influencing it, and how various providers stack up.

Ultimately, Hostinger and Cloudways are our top picks for reliable and fast web hosting.

Hostinger is one of the fastest web hosting providers, offering reasonable pricing and quality customer support with multiple channels. Meanwhile, Cloudways offers flexibility, as it hosts clients’ websites on the cloud and uses the pay-as-you-go system.

At the end of the day, your decision should be based on your own requirements. So, pick the provider that helps you stay a step ahead.

FAQ About the Fastest Web Hosting Providers

To wrap it up, let’s look at some of the most frequently asked questions about the fastest web hosting services and providers.

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is a service that allows you to post a website or web page onto the internet. A web host, or a web hosting provider, provides the technology and services necessary to view the website or web page online.

Why is the speed of a web hosting service important?

Hosting speed significantly impacts the user experience. Faster load times lead to better user engagement, conversion, and bounce rates. Speed is also a ranking factor for popular search engines like Google, affecting your site’s visibility and SEO.

What factors affect the speed of a web host?

Several factors can affect web hosting speed, including server location, server configuration, resources like RAM and CPU, bandwidth allocation, type of storage (HDD vs. SSD), and performance-enhancing tools like caching and CDN (Content Delivery Network).

How can I test the speed of my web hosting?

There are several online tools to test the speed of your web hosting provider. These include GTmetrix, Pingdom, and Google PageSpeed Insights. These tools can give you insights about your page speed and suggestions for improving it.

Does faster web hosting mean better SEO for my website?

Yes, faster web hosting providers can lead to better SEO. Speed is a ranking factor in Google’s algorithm, meaning faster sites have a better chance of ranking higher in search results. Also, a faster site provides a better user experience, leading to longer site visits and higher engagement.

What is a good server response time for a web host?

Google says a good server response time is 200 ms (milliseconds) or less. However, this can depend on many factors, including the server’s resources, traffic, and the complexity of your site.

Can the location of the web host’s server impact my website’s speed?

Yes, the server’s physical location can impact your website’s speed. The further away the server is from the user, the longer it takes for data to travel, which can slow down your site. That’s why you should look for a web hosting provider with a global data center network.

What is CDN, and how does it improve web hosting speed?

A CDN, short for Content Delivery Network, refers to a network of servers distributed worldwide. When a visitor lands on your site, the CDN delivers your site’s static content from the server closest to them, reducing the distance it takes for the data to travel and improving speed.

How do SSDs contribute to a faster web host?

SSDs, or Solid State Drives, store data on flash memory rather than spinning disks as HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) do. This results in much faster data access times, improving the overall performance of the web hosting solution.

What other factors should I consider besides speed when choosing the fastest web hosting service?

Besides speed, you should consider the hosting provider’s reliability, uptime guarantee, security measures, scalability, customer support, pricing, backup options, and whether they offer additional features, such as email hosting, a free domain name, and a free SSL certificate.

Trying to come up with some new Black Friday coupon code ideas this year? Coupons are a great tactic to use in your overall Black Friday marketing strategy, and there are lots of ways you can use them to make an impact.

In this post, we’ll take a look at 11 easy ways you can use coupons to boost conversion rates this Black Friday.

Create Your Coupon Codes Now

Before we get started…

In this post, we’ll use the WPForms Coupons addon to demonstrate how different types of coupons can be set up.

I love this addon for Black Friday marketing: it makes it easy for small retailers to sell digital or physical items — without having to use WooCommerce.

1. Single-Use Coupon

Single-use coupons are a powerful tool for Black Friday marketing, especially for small businesses. These coupons allow customers to redeem a special offer only once, creating a sense of urgency and encouraging larger purchases.

This is a great way to mark down end-of-season stock ready for new spring deliveries.

By implementing a ‘spend more, save more’ strategy, businesses can motivate customers to increase their cart value to maximize their savings.

We’ll show you an example of setting up a single-use coupon in WPForms. After filling out all the details for your coupon, the last setting is for Max Uses. This is the number of times each customer can redeem the coupon. To create a single-use coupon, simply set that number to 1.

2. Percentage Discount

Percentage discounts are among the most popular coupons for small businesses. For Black Friday, the big bonuses are simplicity and perceived value.

Many WordPress plugins offer percentage discounts for their Black Friday deals.

We use percentage discounts for most of our sales, and here’s why we chose that model:

  • Easy to understand: Customers can quickly grasp the value of a percentage discount, making it an ideal choice for time-sensitive Black Friday promotions.
  • Scalable value: The savings increase proportionally with the purchase amount, encouraging customers to add more items to their cart or pick a more expensive service.
  • Versatility: Percentage discounts can be applied to specific products, categories, or entire purchases.
  • Psychological appeal: A discount like “25% off” often feels more substantial than a fixed dollar amount, even if the actual savings are similar.

If you’re using WPForms, just change the Amount dropdown to a percentage, and you’re all set.

Create a percentage discount coupon with WPForms

3. Flat Rate Discount

A flat rate discount offers customers a fixed dollar amount off their purchase, providing a straightforward and predictable saving.

This is a good approach if you want to stay in control of the discounts you’re giving:

  • Setting a minimum amount, like “$20 off orders over $100”, encourages customers to add items to reach the threshold.
  • You can expand on this by creating tiered rates: $10 off $50, $25 off $100, $50 off $200, and so on.

The way you approach this will vary according to your eCommerce platform. In WPForms, you just pick the dollar sign next to the field I spoke about in the previous section.

Create a flat rate discount code with WPForms

In our example above, it’s set to give users $15 off whenever they use the code BFSULLIE15.

4. Affiliate Coupon

Black Friday is a great time to get your affiliates in on the marketing to push your product on your behalf.

If you have a referral program, it’s easy to create codes for your affiliates right in WPForms. They can share those codes and point people back to the products on your site.

Affiliate coupons work well around the holidays because:

  • You’re reaching a new target audience who are in the mood to shop
  • Affiliates can promote special offers their audience can’t find elsewhere
  • You can get the word out about new products right before Christmas shopping season
  • Affiliate recommendations often carry more weight than traditional advertising, particularly if they review your product and give their own opinion on it.

When customers fill out the order form, they would use the code the affiliate gave them. This is usually some combination of the affiliate’s name or business and the discount. You only pay commissions on actual sales, so getting started is free.

In WPForms, we can generate a code with any word or phrase in it. That makes it easy to give affiliates their own trackable coupon. In this example, Pattie can share her code on her site and on social media. Every time someone uses it, they save 15% on their order.

Create an affiliate coupon in WPForms

Pro Tip

You can set up an affiliate marketing coupon as a single-use code. That way, the customer can only get a discount on their first order.

5. Automatic Start and End Times

Most of us would rather be celebrating with family — or shopping — and not maintaining our Black Friday sales!

In your WPForms Coupons addon settings, you can set the start and end times during coupon setup. Automatically run the sale for 24 hours or extend it through the entire weekend, which is a powerful way to create enticing Black Friday offers.

November 29, 2024, is Black Friday, so we set our coupon to start right at midnight. Because Black Friday shopping has become an entire multi-day event, we set the coupon to expire after Cyber Monday ends.

Set your start and end times for your coupon code

This feature creates urgency and prevents use outside the promotional period.

Remember to clearly communicate these time limits to customers in your coupon code terms and conditions.

6. Free Shipping

Have you ever gone to buy something and then abandoned your cart when you noticed the shipping fee? You’re not alone.

Here’s the good news: you can improve conversions by creating a free shipping promotion for your Black Friday campaign. To do this, create a flat rate offer that will cover the shipping cost.

Use the flat rate discount to offer free shipping

7. Flash Sales

Flash sales are super common during holiday season shopping periods. You might see businesses offering a different deal every hour or simply just advertising popup sales.

These are also easy to set up in the WPForms Coupons addon. The process is very similar to the timely seasonal sales we set up earlier. This time, however, you’re going to set the start and end times much closer together.

Set up a flash sale using WPForms

As you can see in this example, the flash sale requires a coupon code that will only work for an hour, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

For this kind of sale to be successful, you need to make sure you advertise it well. Make sure shoppers are ready to jump on your site and start buying right when the sale starts:

  • Send a series of countdown emails leading up to the sale
  • Use platforms like Instagram and Facebook to showcase product sneak peeks
  • Have a “Deal of the Day” to keep your audience engaged over a longer period
  • Offer VIP subscribers or frequent buyers a chance to shop the sale early
  • Design a landing page to allow customers to sign up for notifications when the sale goes live
  • Send push notifications to alert users right when the sale begins.

8. Sitewide Discount

A sitewide discount means that everything on your site is discounted. This is a nice gesture toward your customers to welcome in the holiday shopping season. Combine it with other marketing tactics on this list, such as a flash sale or single-use coupon.

Set up a sitewide discount for a limited time

In this example, our sitewide sale will last for 12 hours on Black Friday, but the coupon code for 25% off your order can only be used once.

Coupon popups are a great way to advertise this kind of sale on your site.

9. Share Your Coupon Code on Social Media

To boost sales this Black Friday, make sure your brand is discoverable. After creating your coupon codes in WPForms, share them on social media to expand your reach.

Loyal customers will see that sales are happening and can easily share those sales with friends. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and can help potential customers become new customers in no time.

A Lotus and Luna social media post sharing a coupon code

Clothing brand Lotus and Luna shared this graphic on their social media to promote a coupon code. This kind of design works great because it’s simple but eye-catching. You notice the larger text announcing the sale and the button-style callout for the coupon code itself.

If it makes sense on the platform you’re using, you can use a few high-traffic hashtags to get more customers back to your online business, as well.

10. Category Deals

If you want to offer a coupon only for certain categories of items in your online store, it’s easy to set up in WPForms.

When you’re creating your coupon code and it comes time to select the forms to which the coupon code will apply, simply select only the categories you want to include in the sale.

Create category coupon deals in WPForms

In this example, we’ve chosen to discount only winter coats. These types of sales double up well as flash sales, too.

If you’re a daily deal website, you can also explore coupon & daily deal themes that make it easy for you to create a full-featured deals directory website.

11. Email Your Coupon Code

Email marketing can help boost your conversion rates quite a bit. Like sharing your coupon code on social media, sending it to your email list is a good way to let them know about your deals this Black Friday.

Knit Picks email coupon

This email graphic from Knit Picks is clean and calls out the important details in bold.

As an alternative to sending an email coupon to your whole list, you can also send it to new subscribers as a way to thank them for subscribing.

For added convenience, you can share a link that auto-applies the coupon code when your subscribers click on it. It’s a great way to entice customers to go through with a purchase because they’ll see the discount already applied when they visit your payment form.

However you decide to do it, be sure you come up with a catchy subject line to increase the open rate.

FAQs on Black Friday Coupon Marketing

Got more questions? I have more tips to share!

When should I start planning my Black Friday coupons and promotions?

You should begin planning your Black Friday offers and coupons in August or September. Remember that multiple teams will likely need to collaborate on successfully executing your Black Friday promotions and deals, so leave enough time for all of them to coordinate plans.

Is it better to offer site-wide promotions or coupon codes for specific products?

Site-wide coupon codes and specific product codes are both effective in different ways. For larger average order sizes, go with site-wide coupons. If you want to manage your margins and move very specific products, it’s better to focus just on those. Both are useful and good for building customer loyalty.

How should I promote my Black Friday coupon codes?

To effectively promote your Black Friday coupon codes, it’s important to use multiple channels to get the word out.

Start by marketing to your existing customer base through targeted email campaigns, showcasing your best deals and exclusive offers.

Then schedule social media platforms to create buzz and engage with potential customers, using eye-catching visuals and compelling copy to highlight your coupon codes.

If you’re organized in advance, you can tap into affiliate marketing programs and share those personalized coupons people love.

On the day of the sale, display your Black Friday coupon codes on your website, creating dedicated landing pages, or banners to ensure you make the most of the traffic you’ve built up.

How often should I share my coupon codes?

Depending on how long your deals run, 2-4 coupon code emails should be adequate. If you send too many emails, you risk annoying shoppers with too many messages.

Remember that social media posts need to be repeated several times to be effective because feeds move quickly. Schedule multiple posts with slightly different wording at different times of the day.

How do I improve coupon code redemption rates?

Single-use coupon codes will create a sense of urgency, so they’re your best option. To improve coupon redemption on the day:

  • Make sure the promo codes themselves are easy to find and use
  • Avoid any complicated words or phrases
  • Set fixed dates and use countdown timers so your customers are aware of the end time.

Next, Advertise Your Coupon Codes With a Web Banner

Place your Black Friday deals front and center with a floating bar, popup, modal window, slider, or other web banner promotion. Check out our list of the best web banner plugins for WordPress.

We tested some of the most popular banner plugins to determine which are the best. In this post, we’ll take you through our findings.

Let’s go!

How Do You Add a Banner to WordPress?

A banner is a tool that lets you display attention-grabbing messages, sales, or terms on your website. You can also use it to collect leads or display ads. The easiest way to add a banner to your WordPress site is to use a plugin.

There are a lot of good plugins out there. Choosing the best one for your site depends on what your goals are and what kind of banner you’re trying to create.

Best Banner Plugins for WordPress

As we reviewed some of the best WordPress banner plugins, it was important to us to look at a variety of plugins with different strengths and functionality. Read on to check out our list of favorites.

1. OptinMonster

The OptinMonster home page

OptinMonster lets you create floating bars and other types of banners and popup notifications to convert traffic. The no-code drag-and-drop builder makes banner management a breeze.

To make it even easier, there are dozens of customizable templates to match your WordPress website or add a pop.

Unlike a lot of other banner plugins, OptinMonster lets you build your banner using block elements like text, video, image, countdown timers, and custom HTML. With a dynamic banner, you’re sure to catch visitors’ attention.

If you want to really maximize conversion rates, you have to know when and where to display your banners. Configure the custom target rules to make sure it’s always the best time and place for your site visitors.

OptinMonster targeting rules

We found that OptinMonster installation was easy and straightforward. The clean, user-friendly interface was easy to work with to help us set up exactly what we wanted in a banner. It’s great for beginners.

Cost

OptinMonster starts at $9/month, billed annually.

2. TrustPulse

TrustPulse homepage

Rather than creating a banner in the traditional sense, you can use TrustPulse to create social proof notifications.

Social proof notifications are alerts that slide in on the screen to let users know that other people are buying products on the site. The idea is that knowing others are buying the products increases trust. Increased trust leads to more conversions.

TrustPulse tracks events like purchases, registrations, optins, and more, in real time.  Then it displays an alert letting your site visitors know that someone just made a conversion on that event.

A TrustPulse notification

We like that you can choose to display a name or something else. For example, you can configure settings just to say, “Someone just purchased….”

The best banner plugin for WordPress - TrustPulse customization

TrustPulse also allows you to set advanced targeting rules to always reach the right people. You can also customize your notifications to match your site.

After you have everything in place, you can access analytics to help you measure your success.

The best part is that there’s no coding skill required. It’s so easy that you can be fully set up in 5 minutes.

Cost

TrustPulse starts at $5/month with a 14-day money-back guarantee.

3. My Sticky Menu

My Sticky Menu download page

My Sticky Menu lets you make your header or menu sticky. You can also create a welcome bar for promotions, announcements, and more.

We had an easy time installing the plugin and getting started. The UI is modern, intuitive, and simple to use, and the user experience is great. Once you’re in, it’s a breeze to set up and customize your simple banner with background colors, buttons, fonts, and sizes.

My Sticky Menu settings

The free plugin gives you lots of customization options for your banner. As you make changes, you can preview them right next to the settings.

Live preview of My Sticky Menu bar

One of the features that we really like is that you can add a contact form to your banner. This form is a name and either an email or phone number. It’s a great way to boost conversions while growing your email list.

There are a lot of features available to users on the free plan, but you can unlock even more features when you upgrade, including multi-bar notifications, countdown timers, discount coupons, and more.

Cost

If you want to upgrade from the free version, the premium version starts at $39/month, billed annually.

4. Hello Bar

Hello Bar homepage

Hello Bar is another popular option for creating custom banners, sliders, modals, alerts, and page takeovers to increase conversions and grow your email list.

Setup is as easy as 1 click. If you’re brand new to marketing, you can get access to a dedicated marketing expert who will help ensure your copy converts.

Hello Bar is user-friendly. You don’t need to know any code to use it.

Cost

There’s a free limited starter plan. After that, premium plans start at $24/month, billed annually.

5. Announcer

Announcer website

Easily turn your banners into CTAs with Announcer. Use it to create display banners to accept cookies, view privacy policies, subscribe, and much more.

A nice feature in Announcer is the ability to stack multiple notifications. While it can be eye-catching, we do advise using it sparingly, however, so it doesn’t become distracting to your site visitors.

There’s a lot you can do with this plugin, even on the free plan:

  • Schedule banners for specific times
  • Use cookies to re-display or hide banners users have already seen
  • Set up conditional rules
  • Add animations
  • Set visitor conditions for display

When you create your banners, you can include forms, images, or shortcode. Customize your announcement with multiple layouts so it looks exactly how you want it to appear to your website visitors.

Announcer is easy to use. There is no coding skill required.

Cost

There is a free plan. The premium plan to access pro features starts at $25/year.

6. AdRotate

AdRotate WordPress banner

What makes AdRotate a little different from others on this list is that it’s an ad management plugin geared specifically toward ad banners. It works with Google AdSense ads, Amazon ads, and other affiliate ad platforms.

Ad creation is easy. If you don’t have an ad of your own created, you can use the built-in ad generator to create one. No coding skills are required. You can preview your ad banners while you’re editing.

To add banners to your site, you can use the plugin’s WordPress block editor functionality in Gutenberg. Alternatively, use shortcodes to add banners to your content, widget, blocks, page builders, sidebars, and more. It’s also possible to set up post injection.

Decide whether you want to rotate banner ads as a carousel per page load or every few seconds, and choose the schedule you want.

Cost

AdRotate has a limited free plan. The premium version will run you about $45/month.

7. WPFront Notification Bar

WPFront Notification Bar WordPress page

Similar to others on this list, WPFront Notification Bar lets you create a new banner to display at the top of your website or at the bottom.

Choose whether you want to display a message alone or a message with a button. The button can open a URL or execute JavaScript.

There are several ways to customize your notification bar:

  • Determine whether you want it to be sticky or display on scroll
  • Customize colors to match your site
  • Set your start and end dates
  • Hide the bar for those viewing on smaller screens and devices

Cost

There’s a limited free version. Pro version plans start at $89/year.

FAQ

Do Banner Plugins Affect Website Performance or Page Loading Speed?

It depends. A good banner plugin will be coded well and won’t weigh your site down. Because they’re typically optimized for performance, their impact on site speed is minimal. That said, you should always do your research before you install a plugin. Make sure you download from a reputable developer and read reviews.

Can I Create Custom Call-to-Action Buttons Within My Banners Using a Plugin?

Yes, many banner plugins allow you to create custom call-to-action buttons to appear on your banners. It’s important to research before you download something. Always read the documentation just to be sure that you’re getting a plugin with that functionality.

1. WPForms

The WPForms homepage

You know and love WPForms as the best form-building plugin for WordPress with its rave Trustpilot rating of 4.8/5. But did you know you can also use it to add coupons to your eCommerce forms?

Let’s say you have items to sell but no need for an online store.  You can use WPForms to create an order form and embed it on your WordPress site. Then, the WPForms Coupons addon lets you add coupon codes.

After installing WPForms and the Coupons addon, access your coupons dashboard by navigating to WPForms » Payments » Coupons.

Coupons tab on the Payments page in WPForms

Click Add Coupon to create your discount. You’ll see a form where you can enter your coupon information. There are a few ways you can customize the coupon, as well.

First,  you can decide whether you want to create your own code or generate one at random.

You can also choose whether you want the coupon to give a percentage off, or if it should offer a flat rate discount. Configure these settings right in WPForms.

Create your coupon in WPForms with the Coupons addon

Finally, you can specify start and end dates and times, as well as the maximum number of times the coupon can be redeemed. You can display these coupon terms and conditions right on your payment form if you wish.

Once you’ve created the coupon, you can connect it to as many of your payment forms as you’d like. Delete them at any time.

And the Payments tab in WPForms will give you a way to monitor all of your sales across forms, including coupon redemption.

2. OptinMonster

The OptinMonster home page

OptinMonster gives you a ton of ways to increase and optimize your conversions. Create an offer, select a template, and watch sales convert. It’s super simple.

We love that you can choose where you want the offer to display on your site. You’re not limited to a floating bar or a popup. OptinMonster gives you more options to create eye-catching deals.

Selecting a template in OptinMonster

When you’ve selected a template for your campaign, you can then begin designing your offer.

Edit your campaign in OptinMonster

The user interface is clean and simple. It’s all drag-and-drop, so you don’t need to know any code to create your offers.

If you choose to create a form-based offer, you can integrate your OptinMonster account with WPForms and create outstanding popups using your forms. It’s also possible to combine styles, so you might use your form templates to create a popup and still have a floating bar that stays on the page while the deal is active.

When you’re happy with your offer, it’s time to publish it on your site and start converting sales.

A popup offer created with OptinMonster

We found that OptinMonster is simple enough for beginners to use, with even more advanced features being accessible. Some other features we loved were the ability to split test, as well as the access to real-time analytics that you can use to make adjustments.

What I Liked

  • Exit-Intent Coupons: Catch visitors as they’re about to leave with an exclusive discount popup.
  • Timed Deals: Display limited-time offers that encourage quick action from customers.
  • Targeted Display Rules: Show coupons based on user behavior for customizing offers to different visitors.
  • Mobile-Friendly Popups: Coupons look great on mobile, so customers on any device can engage.
  • Built-in A/B Testing: Easily test different coupon designs and messages to see which gets more clicks.
  • Gamified Coupons: Spin-to-win or scratch-off style coupons add a fun twist that boosts engagement.

How Much Does OptinMonster Cost?

3. AffiliateWP

The AffiliateWP homepage

If you run an affiliate program on your site, AffiliateWP allows you to create affiliate coupon codes. It’s an especially great plugin for WooCommerce store owners.

One of the great features that we love is the Dynamic Coupons. If you’ve created WooCommerce coupons in your account, you can select them in AffiliateWP and create dynamic codes for your affiliates. When you do that, you have a few customization options, including choosing a coupon format.

Create dynamic coupons in AffiliateWP

When you select the box to automatically generate discount codes for each registered affiliate, that coupon code will appear in every affiliate account, even when you register new ones.

You can also determine the commission rate during affiliate setup.

Select commission rate

After that, the affiliate can access their dynamic coupon code to add it to their content.

AffiliateWP affiliate code

The way this works is that the affiliate copies this coupon code and includes it in their content. When a reader uses that code to make a purchase, they’ll receive the specified discount, and the affiliate will receive the specified commission. This is an affiliate sale.

In our examples above, the reader would receive a 15% discount using the code SULLIEWPF15. And the affiliate, Sullie, would earn a 20% commission.

As noted before, AffiliateWP works great with WooCommerce. If you want to create coupons and offer commissions to affiliates, definitely check out AffiliateWP.

What I Liked

  • Easy Coupon Tracking: Track each coupon’s performance to see which ones drive the most affiliate traffic.
  • Referral-Linked Discounts: Connect discounts directly to affiliate referrals, making it easy to reward your partners.
  • Automatic Coupon Creation: Set up automatic coupon generation for new affiliates to save time and keep things organized.
  • Affiliate-Specific Codes: Create unique codes for each affiliate to better track sales and conversions.
  • Detailed Performance Reports: View in-depth reports on coupon use and effectiveness, helping refine your strategy.
  • WooCommerce Compatibility: Seamlessly integrates with WooCommerce, making it easy to apply discounts to product sales.
  • Manual Approval for Added Control: Approve or deny coupon codes manually, giving you full control over each affiliate discount.

How Much Does AffiliateWP Cost?

AffiliateWP starts at $149.50/year.

4. PushEngage

The PushEngage homepage

PushEngage is a push notification plugin.  It lets you publish notifications that pop up automatically on your visitor’s phone or computer.

PushEngage coupon code notification

If you install PushEngage, you can create a coupon code in WPForms and advertise it in a push notification popup. Even better, you can add your coupon code to the end of the URL as a query string and the coupon will be automatically applied.

Coupon code push notification in PushEngage

One of our favorite things about PushEngage is how easy it is to customize your notifications. For example, you can use the Attributes API to personalize notifications based on your subscribers’ details.

You can also use geotargeting to send offers within specific areas.

To go along with that, PushEngage makes it possible to send your notifications in subscribers’ time zones and local languages.

We found that the UI was easy to navigate. Even better, you don’t need any coding knowledge. You can truly get started in minutes.

What I Liked

  • Easy-to-Use Notification Coupons: Send coupon codes directly through push notifications, making them hard to miss for users.
  • Personalized Discounts: Tailor coupon offers based on user behavior, ensuring relevant deals reach the right audience.
  • Scheduled Notifications: Set up discount alerts in advance, so your coupons go out exactly when you want them to.
  • Segmentation Options: Target specific groups with different offers, ideal for delivering unique discounts to returning visitors or loyal customers.
  • Real-Time Coupon Updates: Quickly send out last-minute discounts or flash sales with real-time push notifications.
  • A/B Testing for Offers: Test different coupon messages to see which ones get more clicks and engagement.
  • Detailed Analytics: Track clicks, conversions, and more to understand how well your coupon campaigns are performing.

How Much Does PushEngage Cost?

There’s a free plan you can use to get started and get a feel for the plugin. When you’re ready to upgrade for more features, prices start at $8/month, billed annually. If you want to automatically apply coupons on your payment forms, you’ll need WPForms Pro as well.

5. Advanced Coupons

Creating a coupon in the Advanced Coupons plugin

Advanced Coupons has a ton of great features for you to use when setting up and promoting your coupons. For starters, it’s easy to create a basic coupon using either your own chosen code or one created by the automatic coupon generator.

There are lots of ways to customize those coupons, too, including different restrictions and limits.

This plugin is comprehensive in that you can go beyond a regular discount coupon. For example, you can offer BOGO deals, free shipping, and URL coupon codes.

You can even auto-add coupons when conditions match so customers get a deal without having to do anything at all. The plugin also makes it easy to create gift cards and a loyalty program, giving you a full range of options to boost conversions.

What I Liked

  • Cart Conditions for Targeted Discounts: Use specific conditions, like cart total or item quantity, to apply discounts.
  • Scheduled Coupons for Events: Plan discounts in advance for special occasions or holidays, making it simple to run timely promotions.
  • Loyalty Program Integration: Integrate loyalty features to reward repeat customers and encourage them to return with exclusive coupon offers.
  • Auto-Apply Coupons: Coupons are automatically applied to the cart based on conditions, saving customers the hassle of entering codes manually.
  • Shipping Discounts: Offer shipping-related discounts, like free shipping for orders over a certain amount, adding an extra incentive to complete purchases.

How Much Does Advanced Coupons Cost?

A free version of Advanced Coupons is available. To access more features, you can upgrade to a premium version starting at $59.50/year.

6. FunnelKit

FunnelKit homepage

You have many options for WooCommerce coupon plugins, but FunnelKit makes your sales funnels and marketing automation a breeze.

We liked how easy it was to set up automatic coupon redemption from the checkout page. In your checkout page settings, you only need to check a box and enter a code to apply.

Another useful feature is the ability to offer coupons to those who abandoned their carts. When you set up a new automation, you can select an abandoned cart as the trigger event in WooCommerce.

From there, you can set up the coupon details and set it to email the shopper who abandoned the cart, offering them a certain percentage off to complete the purchase.

What I Liked

  • One-Click Upsell Offers: Create upsell deals that customers can add to their cart with a single click.
  • Exit-Intent Coupons: Capture abandoning visitors by showing targeted coupons when they try to leave the page.
  • A/B Testing for Offers: Experiment with different coupon offers to see which ones perform best.
  • Customizable Thank-You Pages: Add a personalized touch to thank-you pages to encourage repeat purchases.
  • Countdown Timers for Urgency: Add countdown timers to coupons to push shoppers to take action quickly.

How Much Does FunnelKit Cost?

FunnelKit starts at $99.50/year.

7. WP Coupons and Deals

WP Coupons and Deals website

WP Coupons and Deals lets you easily create coupons and deals. The UI is intuitive and looks a lot like WordPress, so it’s familiar to navigate.

Use shortcodes to add your coupons wherever you want on your site, including sidebars, widgets, and footers. You can even opt to hide coupons after their expiration date so that you don’t have to go back looking for old discount codes to remove manually.

You can also use this plugin for affiliate marketing.

What we really loved about this plugin is the ability to preview your coupon as you create it. You can choose from several coupon templates so that the style fits with your site’s WordPress theme. You can customize colors to make sure it matches, as well.

What I Liked

  • Easy Coupon Management: Quickly add, edit, or delete coupons, making it super simple to keep your deals fresh and relevant.
  • Clickable Coupon Boxes: Display eye-catching coupon boxes that users can click to reveal codes, which helps improve engagement.
  • Expiration Date Countdown: Show a countdown for each deal to create urgency, encouraging users to grab the offer before it expires.
  • Dedicated Deals Pages: Organize all coupons on a single page, making it easier for visitors to find the best deals without hunting around.
  • User-Friendly Shortcodes: Use shortcodes to place coupons anywhere on your site, providing more control over where deals appear.

How Much Does WP Coupons and Deals Cost?

Pricing for WP Coupons and Deals starts at $39/year.

FAQs — Best WordPress Coupon Plugin Options

Coupon code plugins are a popular topic of interest among our readers. Here are answers to some common queries about them.

Can I customize a coupon’s appearance using a WordPress coupon plugin?

Yes, most WordPress coupon plugins include the functionality to customize your coupon’s appearance. Some have templates that you can use, but most plugins let you customize the color scheme so your coupon matches your site.

How can my site benefit from using a WordPress coupon plugin?

Having a coupon plugin on your WordPress site has several benefits. First, it helps you to attract customers. People love a good deal, and if you give them a way to save a little money, that can help boost your conversions.

Offering a deal with coupons doesn’t just help attract new customers. It also helps build loyalty once they’ve found you. Building loyalty is a crucial step in boosting conversion rates.

If you don’t have a coupon plugin and never offer your customers discounts and deals, you could see a significant dip in loyalty and sales as they move towards brands that do offer them.

How do coupons work in WordPress?

The easiest way to add coupons to your WordPress website is to install a coupon code plugin. Different plugins have different features.

For example, some might allow you to customize popups for users to take advantage of deals. Others might make it easier to add coupon codes to your order form or checkout page.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is when you earn a commission from selling third-party products through special affiliate or referral links. Its popularity has increased in recent years because if you can get good at it, you can earn a decent amount of passive income.

In fact, some affiliate marketers open eCommerce stores using platforms like WooCommerce just to sell affiliate products. It means they never have to manage products and inventory, but they can still earn all the commission from the sale.

Best Affiliate Plugins For WooCommerce

Here are our picks for best affiliate plugins for WooCommerce based on our tests. We’ll go into our top 3 in a bit more detail, but don’t sleep on the others! These are all fantastic plugins for your affiliate marketing campaign.

1. AffiliateWP

best affiliate plugins for woocommerce

AffiliateWP lets online businesses and individuals with WooCommerce stores create their own affiliate marketing programs. It’s primarily for use with WordPress.org sites, but you can also use it on a WordPress.com site if you have a business or eCommerce account.

Cost

AffiliateWP starts at $149.50/year.

There’s no free trial, but there is a money-back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied with your purchase.

Installation & Setup

The first thing you’ll need to do is purchase a license on AffiliateWP’s website and download the plugin.

Download the AffiliateWP plugin from your account page

After downloading the .zip file from your account page, install and activate it in WordPress. If you need help with that step, check out this guide to installing WordPress plugins.

Setup is a breeze, thanks to the setup wizard. That’s where you’ll enter your license key, select integrations, configure specific affiliate payouts, and determine affiliate commissions and growth tools.

As it walks you through the quick process, one of the options is 1-click integration. This is where you can select WooCommerce.

Note that it will only let you integrate with plugins that it detects on your WordPress site, so make sure you have WooCommerce already installed and activated first.

1-click integration with your favorite tools in AffiliateWP

It only takes a couple of minutes to complete the setup wizard and get AffiliateWP up and running on your site.

Check out our full review of AffiliateWP.

Configuring AffiliateWP

There are a lot of options when it comes to configuring AffiliateWP. While this may seem time-consuming, it allows you to be precise in setting up your affiliate marketing program.

When you click on AffiliatesWP » Settings in the left sidebar menu in WordPress, you’ll see 7 tabs across the top:

  • General
  • Integrations
  • Optin Form
  • Emails
  • Miscellaneous
  • Payouts Service
  • Coupons

You can spend as much or as little time as you want in these tabs but spend some time there, particularly in the General tab. That’s where you’ll be able to configure the settings for your Affiliate Area page, which is where your affiliates will go to get their referral links and access their accounts.

Adding Affiliates

Adding affiliates in AffiliatesWP

Affiliates are tied to user accounts, so be sure to create those first. AffiliateWP provides an easy link that helps you with that.

Affiliate setup is pretty straightforward. After selecting a user to add as an affiliate, you can add details such referral rate, rate type, payment email, and more.

Using the Affiliate Area to Generate Referrals

You can create referral links, as can your affiliates when they visit their affiliate area page. This is an easy way for them to choose the products they want to promote and generate the links they need, thus keeping it neat and organized.

When you install AffiliateWP, it lets you add the affiliate area to any page you want and share that with your affiliates to access. When they do, they’ll be able to grab any referral links you’ve set up, and use the link generator from that same affiliate dashboard to create their own links.

Generating referral links in AffiliateWP

From there, affiliates can grab the links they need to add to their content.

It’s worth noting that when you add creatives, you have the choice of adding them as an image or text link that affiliates can use.

Payouts

There are 2 ways to pay your affiliates in AffiliatesWP. The best way is to connect your account to Payouts Service. It allows you to pay affiliates directly to their bank accounts from a debit or credit card.

Connect your AffiliateWP account to Payouts Service

Alternatively, you can pay your affiliates manually through other means not connected to the plugin.

Overall Impression

AffiliateWP is top-tier when it comes to creating your own affiliate program. The easy 1-click integration with WooCommerce means that the two work together seamlessly.

As with any plugin, there’s a little bit of a learning curve involved, especially if you’re brand new to setting up affiliate programs. But it’s intuitive and easy to figure out, and support is available if you need it.

2. Easy Affiliate

The Easy Affiliate website

If you’re looking to create your own affiliate program, Easy Affiliate is another great option. It easily integrates with popular tools like ConvertKit, PayPal, GetResponse, Easy Digital Downloads, and more. You can even integrate it with your WPForms account!

Cost

Easy Affiliate starts at $99.50/year. Although they don’t offer a free trial, they do offer a 14-day no-risk guarantee so you can get your money back if you aren’t satisfied.

Installation & Setup

To start, select and purchase an Easy Affiliate license. Once you do, you can download the .zip file from your account page.

Download the Easy Affiliate plugin file

Once you have the file and upload it in WordPress, a setup wizard takes you through all the necessary steps. Those include:

  • License key
  • Migrate affiliate recognizes if you have Affiliate Royale or AffiliateWP installed and offers to help you migrate data, settings, and links
  • Integrations
  • Business Info
  • Affiliate registration process
  • Commissions and payouts
  • Add creatives

Configuring Easy Affiliate

After setup, you can configure additional settings by clicking on Easy Affiliate » Settings.

There are a few neat features worth calling out here. The first is that you can enable UTM parameters for tracking purposes.

Enabling UTM parameters for your affiliate links in Easy Affiliate

When you enable this feature, Easy Affiliate will take care of setting up UTM parameters on your affiliate links so you can track them in Google Analytics.

You can also add a customized, automated affiliate agreement to the affiliate form, and it only takes a minute.

Select the option to autogenerate an affiliate agreement

When you click to auto-generate a default agreement, you have to provide a few details about your business.

Add company information for affiliate agreement

Click Generate Agreement and it’s done. Super easy. Now this agreement will automatically show on all affiliate forms.

Affiliate agreement

Adding Affiliates

You can add affiliates in 3 ways. First, you can let them register on your site. If you choose this option, anyone who registers will be admitted to your affiliate program.

You can also have them submit an application. This way, you can review it and decide whether to add them.

Finally, you can add new affiliates manually.

Using the Affiliate Area & Generating Referrals

Generating links in Easy Affiliate is easy. If you’ve used other affiliate tools in the past, you’ll find it a similar process. If you’re brand new, it won’t take you long.

View and add creatives by clicking on Easy Affiliate » Creatives. Creatives can be text links or banners.

Affiliates can view links and banners in your WordPress site’s Affiliate Area.

Easy Affiliate dashboard

They can manage their accounts in that area, as well.

Payouts

Though both are strong platforms, there are more payouts options available to you in Easy Affiliate than with AffilateWP.

Easy Affiliate lets you set up payouts using PayPal Mass Payment or PayPal 1-Click.

Payouts options in Easy Affiliate

PayPal is a trusted payment processor, so it’s one that your affiliates will recognize and likely have.

You can also opt to pay your affiliates through some other means outside of the plugin.

Overall Impressions

Easy Affiliate is a solid platform that offers a ton of features, even on its Basic plan. It was easy to set up, easy to learn, and everything was intuitive.

We liked all the options available for customizing your program, as well as the real-time reports. Not only does Easy Affiliate create a good user experience for you, but it helps you create a good user experience for your affiliates.

3. WP Affiliate Manager

WP Affiliate Manager website

Among WP Affiliate Manager‘s 25 addons are 5 that are specific to WooCommerce. 2 of those 5 are free. This is a platform that really leans into its WooCommerce integration.

Cost

There is a free version of WP Affiliate Manager. Paid licenses begin at $39.

Installation & Setup

If you’re using the free version, you can install and activate it directly from the plugins area in WordPress. You can also purchase a license on the WP Affiliate Manager website and upload it to WordPress.

Configuring WP Affiliate Manager

WP Affiliate Manager's advanced settings area

Once you’ve activated the plugin, go through all the setting options – and there are many! This screenshot only shows a few of them. Spend some time deciding how you want to customize every aspect of your affiliate program.

The settings menu contains tabs for General, Affiliate Registration, Messaging, Payment, Pages/Forms, and Advanced Settings so you can configure everything to your liking.

And don’t forget the addons! Free and paid addons offer more functionality.

Adding Affiliates

This process is pretty standard with the others on this list. You can let affiliates register through your site’s affiliate area, or you can manually add them on the backend of the plugin.

You can also set different bounty types and commission rates by affiliate.

WP Affiliate Manager gives you unlimited affiliates.

Payouts

WP Affiliate Manager uses PayPal Mass Pay, and you can manage mass payments by outstanding amount or by date range. To set this up, you need to register for an account with your PayPal Premier or Business account and get an API username and password.

Enable PayPal Mass Payment

You can also manage manual payouts from within the plugin, which is a nice feature. It lets you keep track of everything all in one place. Start by viewing the affiliate’s details.

View affiliate details

Then you click Apply Payout.

Apply payouts

We like this feature because it’s convenient to manage manual payments right in the plugin with any PayPal payments you make, as well.

Overall Impressions

While the price is right for the premium versions of WP Affiliate Manager, and they’re loaded with features, there’s really a ton of functionality in the free version, as well. Plus, you have the option of purchasing addons.

We love that there are shortcodes you can use to set your affiliate area up anywhere on your WordPress website. It doesn’t need to be its own page. You can place it in a sidebar or footer, or anywhere you want.

4. SliceWP

The SliceWP website

SliceWP is another sleek option for creating your affiliate program. It has easy 1-click integration with WooCommerce so you’ll be up and running in no time.

There’s a limited free version, but if you want to access most of the key features, paid plans start at $169/year. You can also purchase a lifetime license, starting at $429.

Like many of the others on this list, there’s a setup wizard that helps you configure your affiliate program.

SliceWP setup wizard

We thought it was a nice touch that, at the end of setup, SliceWP invites you to get involved with its community. This includes showing you where and how to access docs and answer questions. You’ll also be prompted to sign up for their emails and join their Facebook group where users help each other.

Another great feature is the customizable email notifications so that you can keep your affiliates up-to-date on everything they need to know.

In terms of payments, it’s worth noting that you need to upgrade to a premium license to connect your PayPal account and use the PayPal Payouts addon. If that’s not a concern, you can also make and manage payouts outside the plugin.

SliceWP payout details

Overall, SliceWP is user-friendly from both the user and admin sides. The user interface is clean and modern, and the plugin has a lot of functionality. Beyond what comes with the plugin, you can also install addons that make it an even more powerful platform to host your affiliate program.

5. Coupon Affiliates

What makes Coupon Affiliates stand out is that you use it to create a coupon-based affiliate program. While others on this list have multiple integrations that include WooCommerce, Coupon Affiliates is created specifically for WooCommerce.

You can try Coupon Affiliates free for 7 days. There’s also a demo that you can access for a few hours to see how it works. After that, the Pro version starts at $14.99 per month, or if you sign up for a yearly plan, it comes out to be $9.99 per month.

As we tested Coupon Affiliates, we really liked all the fraud prevention options.

Coupon Affiliates coupon restriction settings

In addition to coupon usage restrictions, you can create a visitors blacklist, a domain blacklist, and direct link tracking restrictions.

You can set up usage restrictions when you create the affiliate coupon code.

Usage restrictions in Coupon Affiliates

You also have several options when it comes to paying affiliates. These include manual payments, bank transfers, PayPal, Stripe, and online store credit. You can use one of these methods or some combination of them.

Our overall impression of Coupon Affiliates is that it’s quite a powerful platform. It’s easy to set up. There are a lot of features, but the price is affordable if you’re on a budget. It’s a solid option.

6. YITH WooCommerce Affiliates

YITH WooCommerce Affiliates website

YITH is an independent company that specializes in WooCommerce plugin development. As with the others on this list, YITH WooCommerce Affiliates helps you create an referral program for your WordPress website.

There’s a limited free version of WooCommerce Affiliates. You can try the premium features in a free demo. If you decide to purchase the premium version, it costs $179.99/year.

The free version is pretty bare-bones. You can create your referral program, but you’ll be missing a lot of the functionality you probably want. For example, you need to upgrade to access payment options. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay manually outside of the plugin.

If you upgrade, you’ll have access to some different payment gateway options, including direct transfer and PayPal MassPay. You can also use account funds or PayPal Payouts, but it’ll require you to purchase additional plugins.

Choosing payment options in YITH

One drawback is that you might need to purchase several different plugins to get all the total functionality you want. This can add up in cost pretty quickly, so be sure to do your research.

Overall, YITH WooCommerce Affiliates is best as a premium plugin. While there are a decent amount of features in the free version, the basic features you’ll likely want the most, including admin features, are only available to premium users. The plugin is neatly organized with a simple layout that’s easy to navigate.

7. Affiliates WooCommerce

Affiliates Pro download page

Although there is a Light version of the Affiliates plugin, we found that Affiliates Pro was more customizable and worth the upgrade to help create your affiliate program.

Installation takes less than a minute. When it’s all set up, you’ll see that Pro uses blocks, shortcodes, and API functions, creating greater ease of use and better opportunities for customization.

Our overall impression of Affiliates Pro is that, while it’s not difficult to use, it’s still a little more involved than some of the others. Some parts of it feel more modern than others. Some of the charts, for example, feel quite dated.

Still, if you value function over UI, Affiliates Pro has many powerful features to help you create and maintain your affiliate program.

FAQs

Here are a few questions we frequently get about affiliate plugins, as well as our responses.

Can You Sell Affiliate Products Directly On WooCommerce?

Yes, it’s possible to sell affiliate products on WooCommerce. In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Products » Add New in the left sidebar menu.

Below the Product Description box is a Product Data box. Using the dropdown in the Product Data box, change the default Simple Product to External/Affiliate Product.

Add a new external or affiliate product in WooCommerce

Now you can finish setting up your affiliate product. This is an option for setting up Amazon affiliate links to sell from your store.

How Do Affiliate Plugins Track Sales and Referrals?

When someone registers for an affiliate program, they’re typically assigned some kind of referral or affiliate ID number. These numbers appear in their unique referral codes.

When a customer clicks a link that includes that referral ID and makes a purchase, the plugin can track referrals and conversions, which it then attributes to the corresponding affiliate account for credit.

What Are the Benefits of Affiliate Marketing?

Whether you’re an online business or an affiliate, there are definite benefits to affiliate marketing.

Affiliate partners are attractive to store owners and for good reason. You build brand awareness, reach new customers, and generate leads through your affiliate network. And while you do pay affiliate commission on sales, you save on costs by paying a commission versus CPC ads, where you pay even if those clicks don’t result in sales.

Affiliates benefit because, whether they’re bloggers or simply have a strong social media presence, they can monetize their web presence. This helps them earn passive income on something they’d be doing anyway by promoting products they believe in.

What Commission Structures Can You Use With Affiliate Programs?

You can use flexible commission structures with most affiliate plugins. This includes fixed rates, percentages, and tiered commissions. You can set the rates when you register the affiliate.

How Are Affiliate Links Tracked On Social Media or Offline?

Your affiliate plugin uses unique tokenized affiliate links and generally supports link tracking across online and offline channels. In this way, they can detect sales regardless of how they’re promoted.

  • Transaction Fees: 2.9% + 30¢ per successful card charge.
  • Customized Pricing: Available for high-volume businesses.
  • No Setup or Monthly Fees: Pay-as-you-go model.
  • Additional Services: Fees for advanced features like Stripe Radar for fraud prevention.

View a current list of Stripe’s pricing and fees.

Square

Square plans available

Square’s costs depend on your plan. Like Stripe, there’s a free plan. For $29 a month, you can sign up for the Plus plan, which offers advanced features for restaurants, retailers, and appointment-based businesses.

Square also has a Premium plan that allows you to create your own custom plan.

In all cases, there will be processing fees. Here are a few examples of what you can expect to pay for those:

  • In-Person Transactions: 2.6% + 10¢ p
  • Online Transactions: 2.9% + 30¢
  • Manual Entry: 3.5% + 15¢
  • Hardware Costs: Varies based on the device (e.g., Square Reader starts at $49).
  • Software Subscriptions: Optional monthly fees for advanced POS software.

View a current list of Square’s pricing and fees.

Does Stripe offer more value for money?

Stripe costs the same as Square for online transactions. But with Stripe’s better support for international payments and multiple currencies, it’s more suited for small businesses with a primarily online presence. Square, on the other hand, includes POS services in their monthly pricing plans, which makes it a better value for businesses focusing on in-person sales.

Hardware & Card Readers

Stripe

The Stripe Terminal page

In-person payments aren’t what Stripe is mainly known for. But Stripe has expanded its range of card readers to offer pretty convenient in-store transactions and mobile tap payments. I also like that you can accept payments directly through you iPhone or Android phone without needing specialized hardware.

These devices range in price from $59 for a simple Stripe reader to $349 for a more complete POS system that can also be used as a handheld device.

To reduce costs, you can use your Apple or Android phone to accept contactless payments via the Stripe app.

In addition to standard fees, there is a 10¢ fee per authorization, as well as a 5¢ fee per transaction for point-to-point encryption.

Square

Some of Square's hardware offerings

Square is even better with card reader hardware, which isn’t a surprise considering this is Square’s primary focus. When merchants first sign up, Square sends you a mobile card reader. This is completely free of cost, super portable, and very easy to set up. It connects with your Android of iPhone phone jack, allowing you to turn your handheld into a tiny POS sytem.

Square also has accessories you can connect, such as printers, cash drawers, scanners, iPad stands, and more.

You have even more robust options with hardware equipment like Square Register, Square Kiosk, and more which with comprehensive POS software for your business.

Verdict: Square offers superior POS hardware

With a wider range of hardware options containing robust software features and a free mobile card reader, Square is my personal recommendation for small businesses looking for top-quality POS hardware.

Which Payment Processor Has Better Integration Options: Stripe or Square?

Stripe

Stripe has a fantastic range of third-party integrations. I was impressed to see that it supports easy integrations with tools and platforms for billing, fraud detection, financial services, marketing, and even climate impact apps.

Stripe apps

Besides, Stripe readily integrates with CMS like WordPress and eCommerce platforms like Big Commerce, Shopfiy, Magento etc.

Square

Square is pretty good with integrations. It contrasts with Stripe by being more focused on certain industries, such as booking apps and delivery service apps.

Square marketplace

But like Stripe, it supports popular eCommerce platforms and CMS, including form builders like WPForms. So you’ll have no trouble integrating Square with your website.

Integration With WPForms

The great news for WPForms users is that you can use either of these payment processors to collect payments or donations online through your WordPress forms!

Stripe

The Stripe Pro addon from WPForms

Stripe payments are available to all WPForms users, including those using WPForms Lite.

That means all WPForms users have access to some powerful features when it comes to accepting payments, including Stripe Webhooks.

When webhooks are enabled, they act like a messenger between your Stripe account and your WPForms dashboard. This means that you don’t need to log in to 2 different platforms to conduct business. You can manage subscriptions, cancelations, and refunds, right from your Stripe dashboard.

Refund a Stripe payment in WPForms

You can even see the entire log of payments, refunds, subscriptions, and cancelations, and their status all in one place. It’s super easy to manage your Stripe payments right in WPForms.

View real-time payment status in WPForms

When you connect to Stripe using WPForms, your customers can also pay via Apple Pay or Google Pay.

They will only see these payment methods if they’re logged in to their accounts on a device that supports Google Pay or Apple Pay.

When that mode of payment is available, users will see the option, like in the below example with Google Pay.

An example of Stripe's Payment Element in WPForms

Another useful feature with Stripe is the ability for buyers to check out faster using Link.

Check the box to save your info to use Link next time

After the initial setup, users will only need their email addresses to make payments. Link will store their payment information for secure 1-click checkout.

Link makes checkout faster

There is a 3% fee in addition to the normal Stripe fees per transaction.

Need to cut costs? If you upgrade to WPForms Pro, the 3% fee is waived and only normal Stripe transaction fees apply. As an added perk, you’ll also be able to use conditional logic for Stripe payments when you install the Stripe Pro addon, which comes with your WPForms Pro account.

By upgrading, you’ll save money in the long run and get access to tons of other great features and added functionality that Pro users enjoy.

Square

Square Addon for WPForms

You can easily integrate your Square account with WPForms using the Square addon. When you install the addon and connect your Square account to WPForms, you can quickly and easily collect Square payments, donations, and more.

Note that you will need a WPForms Pro account to use the Square addon.

Square and Stripe both offer excellent third-party integrations

The choice comes down to your needs and industry relevance. Square has more integrations for booking, delivery, event ticketing, and team management services. Stripe is better for SaaS and online integrations with easy connections for affiliate services, data analytics, climate, and fraud prevention tools.

Fraud Protection

Stripe and Square both use machine learning to help protect against fraud. Both are PCI-compliant, as well.

Stripe

Stripe uses Radar to protect against fraud

Stripe’s fraud protection is known as Radar. There’s a 5¢ fee per screened transaction, but it’s waived for accounts with the standard 2.9% + 30¢ fee pricing.

Radar is built into Stripe, so there’s no need to download or enable anything. It’s quite a dept at verifying identities in over 30 countries, which is especially useful if you accept international transactions,

On top of that, Stripe integrates with third-party fraud detection tools as well. For instance, you can integrate Stripe with address verification tools to identify fake addresses.

Square

Square also uses machine learning to detect fraud trends. Their team reaches out to merchants if it detects anything unusual. Square will also manage disputes for you.

Stripe offers more customizable fraud identification

While both Stripe and Square are very safe platforms that use modern technologies for fraud and chargeback protection, Stripe’s easier integration with third-party fraud prevention tools allows you to add more layers of protection.

Chargebacks and Refunds

Chargebacks and refunds happen sometimes, so you want a payment processor that will help you work through the process in the most seamless way possible. Stripe and Square both offer support.

Stripe

Stripe's chargeback page

Stripe will help you with chargebacks, but there are a few catches. First, you must be processing payments on Stripe for a minimum of 6 months to be eligible for Stripe Chargeback Protection.

Stripe will also charge a $15 chargeback fee.

Other fees may apply depending on your Stripe plan and fee schedule. While refunds can be issued in part or full, the original payment processing fee isn’t returned.

That said, if a fraudulent dispute arises, Stripe will cover the amount and waive any dispute fees.

I find Stripe’s support for chargeback and dispute management apps quite helpful. For instance, you can integrate with Chargeblast to set up pre-chargeback notifications. This is great for processing refunds before a chargeback occurs, helping you reduce disputes.

Square

In contrast to Stripe, Square does not charge a dispute fee when chargebacks occur. Only the normal transaction fees apply.

The process is pretty simple. If a customer disputes a charge, Square will notify you, the merchant. You can determine how you’d like to proceed. You can either accept the dispute charge, or you can challenge it.

A challenge requires you to send documentation. It’s important to note that payment processors aren’t the ones who make the final determinations in disputes. If a bank or credit card company rules in your favor, the original transaction will stand. If not,  you’ll be responsible for paying the processing fee.

Square stands out for free chargebacks

Square has the edge over Stripe since it doesn’t you any extra fees for chargebacks.

Customer Support

Reliable customer support is a must-have. Both Stripe and Square offer comparable levels of support for you.

Stripe

Search help topics on Stripe's support page

A self-serve resource page on Stripe’s site allows you to answer your question or resolve your issue quickly on your own. When you enter a search term, you’ll get relevant help articles that can walk you through your issue.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for there, you can contact support by phone, email, or chat. This support is available to all Stripe customers 24/7.

Additionally, Stripe offers Growth, Premium, and Enterprise support plans. When you purchase one of these plans, you get additional guidance. Depending on your plan, this could include prioritized ticket routing, critical issue escalation, and real-time incident monitoring.

Square

Access Square's resources and support

Like Stripe, Square allows you to access a repository of documents and content that will help answer your questions. If that doesn’t work, you also have other options.

There’s a seller community that you can join to ask questions and learn from others.

You can also reach out to the support team via phone or live chat, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PST.

Both Stripe and Square offer helpful support

Customer support is helpful and responsive whether you’re using Stripe or Square.

Currencies and Global Availability

When it comes to availability, Stripe is available in more countries than Square. Let’s take a look.

Stripe

A list of countries where Stripe is available

As of this writing, Stripe is available in 46 countries worldwide with support for up to 135 currencies.

Note that it must be available in your country before you can use it. Once it’s available in your country, you can sell internationally to any other country worldwide, regardless of whether Stripe is available there.

Square

Square’s availability is much more limited, with only 8 countries on its list.

  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Japan
  • UK
  • Republic of Ireland
  • France
  • Spain
  • US

It’s worth noting that Square availability in the US does not extend to US territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Square also doesn’t let you make or accept card transactions outside the country where you activated your account. This means that if you set up your account in France and try to accept a transaction from another country, Square won’t process it.

Stripe has broader global and currency coverage

With more countries and up to 135 currencies, Stripe is the better choice for businesses serving international markets.

Payouts

For both processors, payouts vary by country.

Stripe

Stripe’s payout speed is generally 2-3 days but can be up to 7 in some countries.

The payout schedule is daily by default, but you can change it to weekly, monthly, or manual schedules. A daily payout just means that you will receive funds every day, but they’ll be based on your payout speed. For example, the funds you receive today might be the funds you earned 2 or 3 days ago.

These payouts are free. If you require instant payouts for same-day funds, there is a 1% fee.

Square

Standard transfers are 1-2 business days after a transaction. When you sign up for Square, you’re enrolled in the standard transfer schedule by default, but you can change to a custom schedule if you like. You can also opt to have funds transferred to a Square card.

If you need to access your money faster, you have a few options.

First, there’s the instant transaction using a debit card from your linked bank account. This is available 24/7, but there is a 1.75% fee per transfer.

Then there are same-day transfers, in which qualifying funds are available at the close of the business day. These also come with a 1.75% fee per transfer.

Finally, if the standard payout schedule doesn’t work for you, there’s always the option of creating a manual schedule, as well.

Stripe and Square offer flexible payout options

The default payout options are similar in both Stripe and Square, with extra charges for instant payouts. Your choice depends on your payout frequency requirements.

Online Invoicing

Need to access online invoicing? If this is integral to your business, check out how Stripe and Square compare.

Stripe

Stripe offers online invoicing with no fees or setup costs involved. The only cost you’ll incur is your Stripe payment pricing. On the Stripe Starter plan, you’ll pay 0.4% per invoice. On Stripe Plus, it’s 0.5%.

There are more features with the Plus plan, including automatic collections, auto-reconciliation, and quotes.

Square

Square offers online invoicing as part of its free plan. You can also upgrade to the Plus plan, which is geared more toward growing businesses with more complex needs, for $20 a month.

Square’s invoicing fees are 3.3% + 30¢ for cards. If you use ACH payments for bank transfers, it’s 1% with a minimum of $1 per transaction.

Stripe and Square offer robust invoicing solutions

You can use online invoicing for free in both Stripe and Square. However, Stripe has more options for integrating with additional invoicing software.

Stripe vs Square for Small Businesses: Which Is Best For You?

Stripe and Square are both powerful payment platforms that will help you take your payment processing to the next level, whether you’re an online store or a brick-and-mortar business. But here’s my recommendation if you can’t pick between the two.

  • Use Stripe if you’re focused on online payments: If you’re selling online primarily, Stripe is the more customizable and easily scalable solution. Plus, the wider country and currency coverage is important for online businesses operating in international markets.
  • Use Square if you’re focused on in-person transactions: Square is the better choice for in-person transactions due to its wider hardware options with robust POS software features.

Raising funds for a nonprofit is no easy task, and creating a donation form that actually works can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re new to WordPress.

You might be wondering if it’s possible to build an effective donation form in WordPress without getting lost in technical details. I had the same concerns!

After going through the process, I realized that creating a nonprofit donation form in WordPress is much simpler than it seems. In this article, we’ll show you exactly how to use a template to create a donation form in WordPress.

How to Create a Donation Form in WordPress?

Here’s a video tutorial showing how you can make a WordPress donation form:

Need more detail? Let’s walk through it together, step by step.

Step 1: Install and Activate WPForms

To get started, install and activate the WPForms plugin, which we’ll be using for this tutorial.WPForms is among the highest-rated form builder plugins and works well for creating online donation pages.

Plus, it’s super user-friendly. You can see our comparison on WPForms vs GiveWP to see how different plugins compare.

The WPForms homepage

Not sure how to install and activate a WordPress plugin? No sweat. See this step-by-step guide on how to install a plugin in WordPress.

Upgrade to WPForms Pro Now!

Step 2: Activate Your Payment Gateways

Before creating our nonprofit donation form, let’s connect our payment gateways. This will allow donors to pay by credit card.

In all versions of WPForms, you can use Stripe to collect credit card payments. For other payment gateways, you need to first install an addon, and these are only available in Pro or above plans.

To integrate a payment gateway, open your WordPress dashboard. In the left sidebar menu, click on WPForms » Addons.

Accessing the WPForms addons

That will show you all of the available addons you can access.  WPForms integrates with popular payment processors for nonprofits, including PayPal, Square, and Authorize.net.

Pro Tip:

You don’t need the Stripe Pro addon to collect payments with Stripe. However, the Stripe Pro addon gives you additional functionalities like using conditional logic for payments, which can come in handy to accept recurring donations.

Locate and activate the payment addon you wish to use. You can activate and use multiple payment gateways.

The PayPal addon activated

Next, click on WPForms » Settings in the left sidebar menu.

Access your WPForms settings

This will open the general settings for WPForms. Click on the Payments tab.

The Payments tab in WPForms

Now you can connect your accounts for the payment addons you selected.

For PayPal, you’ll just need to enter your PayPal account credentials and follow the on-screen instructions.

You’ll be connected in no time!

Enable production mode

When you’re finished connecting your payment gateways, don’t forget to save your settings! Now we’re ready for the fun part: creating your form.

Step 3: Create Your Nonprofit Donation Form

After you’ve activated WPForms on your site and set up your payment methods, go to WPForms » Add New to create a new form.

add new form

Enter a name for your form at the top of the setup screen. You can use a generic name or the name of your fundraising campaign.

Enter your WPForms form name

Just below that, you’ll see 2,000+ customizable form templates. You can browse these or easily search for the “donation form” template using the search bar.

There are several donation forms and nonprofit templates available, including a Buy Me a Coffee alternative template. Choose whichever best meets your needs. For our example, we’ll use the donation form template.

Use donation form template

Once you select your template, the form builder will open with the template ready to use. You’ll notice the Donation Amount field, which is where the person filling out the form can input any amount they want to donate.

Donation amount field

If you click on the Donation Amount field, the Field Options will open on the left-hand pane. There are a few really useful settings here, such as the ability to set a default item price and control whether you want the amount to be user defined or a fixed one.

In the template I’m using, this field is set to allow the donor to enter any donation amount that they can conveniently send your way. However, you can change this behavior if you want using the Item Type dropdown.

Single item field options

In addition, this template has a PayPal Commerce field already added that you’ll find if you scroll to the bottom. For the purposes of a donation form, you’re probably okay with the Donation Amount field that comes with the template.

If you want to add some other kind of payment options, you could easily do so with the multiple items, checkbox items, or dropdown items fields. You can also add additional form fields for any other information you want to collect.

So let’s take a look at how we add the payment field.

Get the Donation Form Template Now!

Step 4: Set Up the Payment Field for Donations

Because you already set up your payment addons in Step 1, adding the payment field now will be a breeze. Start by clicking the Payments option on the form builder menu on the left.

Click the Payments option to enable payments on your form

On that screen, you’ll be able to interact with any of the payment gateways that you previously activated in Step 1. Deactivated gateways will be grayed out.

Activated payment options in WPForms

Click on the payment gateway that matches the payment field you selected on your form. I decided to stick with PayPal Commerce as the payment solution as part of this template, so that’s what I’ll select.

If you’re accepting one-time donations, click on the Enable One-Time Payments toggle button.

Use the toggle switch to enable PayPal payments

You’ll see additional field mapping options appear once you click on the toggle button. These are optional but you can map values from your form to corresponding PayPal details including:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Billing Address
  • Shipping Address

💬 Pro tip: Would you rather accept recurring donations for your nonprofit? We have a separate guide all about setting up a form with automatic recurring donations.

After that, you can click back on Fields to return to your form.

Click on Fields to return to your form fields

If you want to do some testing, that’s a great idea. We have a few guides to help you with that process.

Step 5: Embed Your Nonprofit Donation Form

At this point, you’re ready to embed your form if you want. Save your form and click on the Embed button at the top right.

Embed your form with the embed button

You can choose whether you want to embed your form on a new page or an existing page.

Choose where you'd like to embed your form

If you choose an existing page, you’ll get a dropdown menu with a list of pages on your site.

WPForms form embed tool

If you create a new page, you can set that up right from WPForms.

Enter a name for your new page

You’ll find yourself in the WordPress block editor, where the form will already be embedded in a block. You can use other content blocks to develop a complete page if you want.

But even if you do nothing else, I strongly suggest adding a theme to your form. With WPForms Pro, this is incredibly easy because you get a bunch of ready-made design themes for your form.

To add a theme, simply click on the area around the form. This will open additional opens for the WPForms block on the right-hand panel. Scroll down to the Themes section and click on any theme.

The changes will happen instantly as you click a theme, so feel free to try different options until you’re satisfied.

Fresh form theme

When you’re satisfied, press the Publish button on the top to take your nonprofit donation form live.

Publish form

Brilliant! Now that your form is live, you can go ahead and share your donation campaign and start collecting funds.

Donation form published

But wait… how are you going to track the money you’ve collected?

With WPForms, this is no problem. Simply navigate to WPForms » Payments from your WordPress dashboard.

Here, you can track your payments and exactly how much revenue or donation funds you’ve collected over a specific period of time with an easy-to-read chart.

WPForms payments chart

And that’s it! You’ve built your online nonprofit donation form. Easy peasy, right?

Check out this complete guide to form entries to see how easy it is to view your donations in the WordPress dashboard.

Bonus: Customize Your Nonprofit Donation Form Template Fields

WPForms is a pretty powerful form builder, and the templates are 100% customizable. As a bonus, we’ll show you how to use WPForms’ tools to customize your form.

Conditional Logic

Applying conditional logic to online forms lets you show users only the information that’s relevant to them.

Instead of the single item field that comes with the donation form we used above, maybe you use a multiple items field instead and add suggested donation amounts with an ‘other’ option.

Donation options before conditional logic is triggered

You can then set up a Single Item field like the one in our example above, allowing donors to enter their own donation amount. Apply conditional logic so the field only appears if ‘Other’ is selected on your form.

Conditional logic triggers the "Donation Amount" field

Want to add conditional logic to your forms? Check out this guide to using conditional logic in WPForms to learn how.

And if you need some ideas for how to use it in your forms, we have some suggestions for ways to use conditional logic to create killer forms.

Change Form Settings

You can change form settings anytime to rename your form, add tags, and more.

From inside the form builder, look on the left sidebar and navigate to Settings » General.

You’ll notice some other settings options based on your addons, but we’re just looking at the General settings here.

General form settings in WPForms

Here you can configure the following:

  • Form Name — Rename your form
  • Form Description — Add a description under the header
  • Tags — Assign a tag to your form to group it with other similar forms
  • Submit Button Text — Change the button text
  • Submit Button Processing  Text — Edit the text that appears after pressing submit button

Configure Your Notifications

Want to receive donation notifications? What about sending confirmation emails to donors?

Easy! From the settings menu, select Notifications.

Access the form notifications in settings

Here you can determine who will receive a notification email. Maybe you want to send it to the donor and CC yourself so you both receive the donation receipt. Set the subject line, From Name and Email, and write the message you want to send.

Note that From Name will be your organization name and not typically an individual.

To get started with this feature, check out our documentation on how to set up form notifications in WordPress.

This guide to using smart tags will help you personalize your notifications.

If you want to send more than one email to one person, read this article on creating multiple form notifications in WordPress.

You can even use ChatGPT with WPForms to send AI-generated notifications.

Finally, to keep branding across your notification emails consistent, check out this guide on adding a custom header to your email template.

An email notification with a custom header image

Configure Your Form Confirmations

Form confirmations are messages displayed to site visitors upon form submission. They give you the chance to let people know immediately that their donation was received and to offer them next steps.

WPForms has 3 confirmation types to choose from:

  1. Message — the default confirmation type in WPForms. When a site visitor makes a donation, a simple message confirmation will appear, letting them know it was received.
  2. Show Page —will take site visitors to a specific web page on your site, thanking them for their donation. For help doing this, check out our tutorial on redirecting customers to a thank you page.
  3. Go to URL (Redirect) — used when sending site visitors to a different website, such as your social media page.

To configure these, click on the Confirmation tab in the Form Editor under Settings.

Next, select the type of confirmation type you’d like to create. For this example, we’ll use the default Message.

Then you just customize the text in the box! When you’re done, click Save in the top right corner.

Need some more guidance? See our documentation on setting up form confirmations.

Keep in Touch With Donors

You can combine your donation forms to gather donor information with some popular email marketing services. For instance, you can connect WPForms with ConvertKit, or other platforms like:

…and more.

This allows you to add donors to your email list and keep them informed about your charitable organization. It’s a good way to get recurring donors by keeping your organization front of mind.

And because your form is already live on your website, it’s easy to use the social sharing features in WordPress to get more traffic. Check out these awesome social media plugins to get some ideas.

FAQs on Nonprofit Donation Form

Got more questions about nonprofit donations? Here’s a compilation of some common questions our team is often asked by nonprofits aiming to set up fundraising forms:

What Makes a Good Donation Page?

Asking for charitable donations online is easy, but getting them to convert can be challenging. You need a smooth donation process.

Keep the donation page simple. If the page has too much going on, it distracts potential donors. If the page is simple to navigate and the form is clean and easy to use, that’s fewer barriers to donation.

And don’t forget to make it clear to visitors what donations are supporting. Is it a general fundraiser, or are you supporting a specific cause with these funds?

Can I track and manage donations within WordPress?

Yes, many donation plugins and form plugins like WPForms allow you to track donations. WPForms includes Payment charts that let you see the amount of funds you’ve raised and the number of donations.

Other dedicated donation plugins like WP Charitable offer more advanced donor management options.

How do I thank donors automatically after they make a donation?

WPForms lets you set up automatic notifications for the donor. You just have to set this up once. When you’ve done that, the donors will receive a thank-you message every time they’ve completed a donation using your form.

Can I customize the donation amounts and frequency options?

Yes, you can customize the donation amounts and frequency options with a lot of flexibility using WPForms. You’re free to allow custom donation amounts or accept predefined amounts (or choose from either option). For the payment frequency, you can create options for one-time donations or recurring donations (quarterly, monthly, yearly, and so on).

Next, Add Optional Payment Fields to Your Forms

You can even include donation requests while users fill out other WordPress forms on your site. That could help you to reach a fundraising goal faster and boost your conversion rate.

When small business owners venture into creating their own WordPress forms, the results often end up being plain and uninspiring. This is a pattern that I’ve consistently observed over the years.

Without the expertise of developers and designers, these forms may function well enough but lack the visual appeal that can engage users and drive conversions.

The good thing is that you don’t need coding knowledge or design expertise to create beautiful forms anymore. You just need the right plugin.

In this post, I’ll show you the code-free way of styling your contact forms to make a strong first impression on your visitors.

How to Style Contact Forms in WordPress

Now that you know our styling tool is the best and easiest styler for WPForms, let’s break it down step by step.

Looking for a way to adjust the vertical spacing between your fields? See this guide on modifying spacing between fields.

1. Install & Activate WPForms

First, you’ll want to install the WPForms plugin if you don’t already have it.

Form styling is available with all versions of WPForms, including WPForms Lite (the best free form builder).

The next step depends on which version of WPForms you’re running.

  • For new users installing WPForms 1.8.1 and later, skip to step 3.
  • If you installed WPForms prior to the 1.8.1 release, you’ll need to enable modern markup. Simply continue on below to see how.

Are you an Elementor user? WPForms supports no-code form styles for Elementor. This allows even more powerful style customizations for your form.

2. Enable Modern Markup

If you had at least one form on your website before updating to WPForms 1.8.1, you must enable modern markup.

To do that, navigate to the General tab in the WPForms settings menu.

On that page, check the box to Use Modern Markup.

Don’t forget to save your settings once you’ve completed this step.

3. Create Your Form

Now it’s time to create your form! To get started, hover your cursor over WPForms in the sidebar of your WordPress admin menu and click on Add New.

Add New

After that, it’s time to begin setting up your form, starting with the form name and template selection. There are hundreds of form templates for marketing and various other functions that you can use. You can also create your form completely from scratch if you like.

The Simple Contact Form is one of our most popular templates. It’s also pretty apt for this tutorial, so we’re going to select it by clicking the Use Template button.

Once you make your selection, you can build or customize your form using the user-friendly WPForms drag-and-drop builder.

4. Embed Your Form

When you’re finished creating your form, it’s time to embed it on your site. You have to complete this step to access the form styling options.

The easiest way to embed your form is to click the Embed button at the top of the form builder.

Embed your form with the embed button

A modal popup window will open, asking you to select the page where you want to embed the form. You can select an existing page or create a new one.

Select your option for embedding your form

If you click the Select Existing Page button, you’ll get a dropdown where you can select from your existing pages.

If you select Create a New Page, you’ll have the opportunity to name your new page.

Name your new page

You can also embed your form using a widget or shortcode.

Click on the Let’s Go! button, and the draft page will open with your embedded form in place.

5. Style Your Form

Now it’s time for the fun part: styling your form!

Click on the form in the block editor, and settings for that block will open in the sidebar on the right. This is where you can access all the styling options for your form.

Field styles

If you’re a WPForms Pro user, you’ll notice dozens of themes available. These professionally designed themes make it easy to style your form with pre-defined color schemes, button styles, containers, and background images.

So, if you want to add some extra oomph to your form instantly, just select any theme from the side panel. In the example below, I’m using the Frost theme which is one of my favorites.

While every theme uses unique styles for each form element, you can also edit these individual elements yourself without any CSS.

There are 5 main form elements that you can style with simple point-and-click controls:

  • Field styles
  • Label styles
  • Button styles
  • Container styles
  • Background styles.

Available styling options

Let’s look at what each one does and how you can adjust the form style.

Field Styles

Field Styles is where you adjust input field size, border radius, and colors. If you want to make your form match others elsewhere on your site, this is where the look begins to take shape.

This is what the default style settings will look like.

Available field style options

Changes are easy to make with no CSS editing needed. Here’s what these different options mean:

  • Size: Adjusts the overall size of your fields.
  • Border: Controls the border style. Options include SolidDashed, or Dotted borders.
  • Border Size: Sets the thickness of your field borders.
  • Border Radius: Allows you to apply rounded corners for a sleek and modern look.

Under these options, you’ll also find settings for Colors. These will let you use a color picker to add colors to different aspects of your fields.

Available field colors

If you want to make sure the form blends seamlessly with your WordPress theme colors, you can choose from those options. The colors you see there will depend on the theme you’re using.

There are also default colors you can select.

The custom color at the top lets you customize your form field colors. You can use the color picker, enter a hex code, and adjust the opacity without editing the CSS.

For instance, you could use the color picker if you wanted to add a custom color to the input field text. If you have the hex code of the color you want to add, you can also directly paste the hex code to get the exact color you want.

Field text color

Once you’ve made your updates, you should see those changes immediately reflected on the form in the block editor. Then it’s time to move on to editing Label Styles.

Label Styles

Labels are the text that appears above a form field. For example, Name or Email Address. Adjust the label styles to control the size and color of labels on your form and create a consistent look across your site.

Default label styles

You can use the Size dropdown to change the label text size. The Sublabel & Hint section lets you choose colors for sublabels and additional hints that appear below the field to prompt specific information.

The Error Message color is for field validation messages that appear if the field receives unexpected input. The same color is used for the asterisk to denote a required field.

As you did in the Form Field section, you can use default colors, theme colors, or use the color selector to choose a custom color for your label styles.

Button Styles

For Button Styles, you get settings similar to Field Styles, with the option to change the size, border, border radius, and color. This allows you to make sure your buttons always stand out and match the other buttons on your site.

Here’s what the default style settings look like for the theme that I’m using (Frost).

Button styles

Note that your button color choices will be used on other form fields like Multiple Choice, Checkboxes, Rating, and NPS surveys.

The theme that I’m using applies a slightly round Border Radius of 8 px. The Border is selected as None, which means the button doesn’t have a border outline.

I recommend reading our detailed guide on submit button best practices for more ideas about customizing your form buttons.

Container Styles

WPForms also allows you to add a custom-styled container to your form. You’ll find most of the same settings as in the sections above, with the exception of two options that are unique to containers:

  • Padding: Use this to adjust the spacing inside your form container
  • Shadow: Add a shadow effect of a particular size or choose none at all.

Container Styles

The theme I’m using added these default container settings automatically, and since I’m pretty happy with the result, I’ll leave these as-is.

However, feel free to experiment and adjust the container if you’d like to add your own creative touch to this design.

Background Styles

With Background Styles settings, you can add a background image or solid colors to accentuate your form’s attention-grabbing qualities even further.

Background styles

Conveniently, there’s a library of stock photos that our team has carefully curated to complement WordPress forms. You can quickly add an image background to your form by selecting one from the Stock Photos.

Stock photos

And if you’d rather upload your own custom images, you also have that option. You can either upload a new image or select one from your WordPress media library conveniently from the Background Styles options.

To do that, just select Media Library from the Image dropdown and then press Choose Image.

Add custom background image

After that, the WordPress Media Library model will open, where you can upload a new image or choose an existing one like you typically would.

Now, you could be done here. At this point, your form is perfectly styled. But there’s one more feature for form styles that I want to show you.

Access Advanced WPForms Styling Features 🎨

Advanced

Below the field, label, and button styles, there’s another section for Advanced. Don’t let the name fool you; it’s still easy to manage!

Open it, and you’ll see a lot of custom CSS code.

Advanced style settings

As you use the built-in styler for WPForms, this custom CSS code is automatically generated and stored here. If you want to use this exact same form style on multiple forms on your site, copy this CSS code and paste it into the form style advanced settings in each one. Within seconds, your forms match!

If you want to reset your form styles back to default, you can click the Reset Style Settings button.

And if, after all of that simple form styling, you still want to make some additional customizations to your style sheet, there’s still a field for Additional CSS Class(es).

And that is truly it! You’ve styled your form and it was super easy, right? No need to write your own CSS!

Don’t forget to save and test it before you publish it!

Styling Contact Forms – FAQs

Here are a few common questions about styling contact forms in WordPress without code:

What styling options are typically available in contact form plugins?

Every contact form plugin offers different levels of customization. In many plugins, the only way to edit your form style is by using custom CSS. More advanced options like WPForms and Formidable Forms offer no-code style customizations that let you edit your field labels, field borders, error and validation messages, and submit button styles.

WPForms even goes the extra mile by letting you customize your form notification emails with custom headers, color schemes, light and dark themes, and several pre-configured notification templates.

Can I preview changes to the contact form before publishing them?

Yes, with WPForms, you have several ways for previewing your form before publishing it. The easiest way is to use the Preview button at the top of the form builder which lets you see how your form would look on a typical page on your site after embedding.

You can also preview your form from the WordPress editor page. If you want to see a preview of your form that also displays any styling changes you’ve made to your field and submit button, using the preview option from the WordPress editor will let you see all these stylistic changes.

Finally, if you’re using Elementor to embed a form built with WPForms, you can use Elementor’s native preview option to see a live preview of your form along with any other elements you’ve added to the page.

How can I ensure that my styled contact form is responsive and mobile-friendly?

WPForms is designed to be responsive and mobile-friendly by default. That means you don’t need to make any extra adjustments to ensure the form you’ve built using WPForms is responsive across all devices.

Can I Style WPForms With Elementor?

Yes, WPForms supports a broad range of form styling options when used with Elementor. Besides, WPForms automatically integrates with Elementor without requiring you to perform any manual steps to sync your forms with Elementor. So if you prefer building pages with Elementor rather than by using the default WordPress editor, you can freely leverage Elementor to style your contact forms that you’ve previously created with WPForms.
